What is the hiring process like at Serco Group?

      Serco Group reviews

      Bad company

      Pros

It would appear there is at first but none - Poor management. Unfair dismissal. They would probably have their camera off during the recruitment process, as it is all very dodgy. Avoid if you can

      Cons

Same as above - zero care for employee welfare - Top to bottom poor approach.

No room for growth and Inadequate Training

      Serco Badly Needs HR Managers.

      Current employee

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Getting paid an hourly rate to do nothing except walk around looking like I'm doing something. Free coffee, extended lunchtime, no-brainer job, no stress.

      Cons

      1. Inefficient and ineffective recruitment processes: HR personnel without a background in HR are struggling to attract and retain talent, leading to high turnover rates and difficulties in filling crucial positions within the organisation. 2. Poor employee relations: Without proper training in people management, HR staff are struggling to handle conflicts and grievances among employees effectively, leading to a toxic work environment and decreased morale. 3. Compliance and legal issues: HR are not playing a crucial role in ensuring that the company complies with labour laws and regulations. Inexperienced HR staff are probably violating labor laws, exposing the company to costly legal issues and penalties. 4. Lack of employee development: Without HR professionals who understand the importance of employee development and training, employees are not receiving the necessary support from managers to grow and advance in their careers, leading to stagnation and dissatisfaction.

      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

General/Corporate Roles: Supportive and collaborative teams, especially within direct departments. Strong onboarding process that helps new employees settle in quickly. Opportunities to work on government contracts and contribute to public service. Good work-life balance in many roles, with predictable hours. Benefits package is decent, including health and dental. Diversity and inclusion initiatives are present and improving. Job stability due to long-term government contracts. Frontline / Operational Roles (e.g. DriveTest Centres, Call Centres, etc.): Clear and structured procedures make daily tasks predictable. Sense of purpose working in public service or helping citizens. Training provided for new roles, even without prior experience. Colleagues are generally friendly and supportive. Opportunities to transfer between locations or contracts over time.

      Cons

General/Corporate Roles: Limited career advancement opportunities within certain departments. Bureaucratic processes can slow down decision-making and innovation. Upper management may feel disconnected from on-the-ground challenges. Pay may not always match industry standards, especially in technical or specialized roles. Lack of transparency in internal promotions and role changes. Workload distribution can be uneven depending on team or contract. Public Service / Frontline Roles (e.g. Testing Centres, Contracted Govt Work): Strict contract-driven environment leaves little room for flexibility. High turnover rate in some frontline roles due to burnout or limited recognition. Minimal input from employees in day-to-day decision making. Shifts and scheduling can be inconsistent or difficult to swap. Limited training beyond onboarding – not ideal for long-term skill development.
