Best Boss in the World & Great Benefits, but Limited Growth.
Pros
Work is structured and challenging without being overwhelming—great for learning. Company supports professional development (pays for EIT/PE). Benefits are excellent (health + pension). Best manager in the world—supportive and gives autonomy. Salary is decent for the area, benefits make up the difference. Parking is good.
Cons
Upper management has department politics that slow things down. No remote work option. Career advancement is limited in small department. Raises are union-based, not performance-based, so salary growth is slow. State procurement is slow. Budget constraints sometimes make project deliverables less than perfect from a personal perspective. Some interpersonal friction when taking over projects from counterparts. Micromanagement on small things, less focus on important stuff.
