      Marketing Assistant Interview

      5 Dec 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      West Palm Beach, FL
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at 1st Line Global (West Palm Beach, FL) in Nov 2018

      Interview

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. I arrived to a shoddy office and had to walk past the PROBATION OFFICE (they share a suite; there were literally half a dozen men milling in and out of the office door that I had to walk past to turn the corner and follow the pathetic paper signs pointing to the desks of both 1st Line Global and Boom Media.) There was a secretary's desk with a stack of blank job applications on it, and really, really loud music blasting out of the bluetooth speaker in the corner of the room. Like, really loud electronic music. Through the open office door, I saw one woman was being interviewed. I'm not sure how this woman walked past the probation office, chipped paint, cigarette smell, and boom boom music for an interview..? DON'T BE THAT GIRL. THIS IS A JOKE. I LEFT IMMEDIATELY.

      Question 1

They followed up and didn't ask why the heck I didn't show up for the interview...goes to show how desperate they are for people. They simply asked me to reschedule like nothing bad had happened.

Thanks for taking the time to review 1st Line Global. We would like to take this opportunity to stress that in many companies across the US when an individual does not show up to an interview with no warning the company often calls them to receive an explanation and offer to reschedule - this is in no way 'desperate'. We also find it slightly unfair that you have deemed our busy office a negative, however, please note that we have taken your comments on board. We wish you every luck in the future.

      Interview

First of all, I almost never write reviews, but this interview experience was so frustrating that I feel compelled to write one. I applied for a "Marketing Assistant" role through LinkedIn. It didn't have many details listed in the job description, but I noticed it was remarkably similar to another job that 1st Line Global had posted with a different title. When I asked Jaemes to describe what makes the Marketing Assistant position unique, he told me point-blank that they're all exactly the same position. Everyone who is hired starts at the "Account Executive" role (so, it doesn't matter that I applied for the Marketing Assistant position). This is a sales role, based (as I discerned later) solely on commission. This is a multi-level marketing position. It can pay off for some people, but I resent that I wasn't able to get straight answers from Jaemes in my interview. I told him it was important to me that I earn a base salary, and he talked in circles around my concern until I realized I'd only be earning commission. Also, my interview was an hour and fifteen minutes late. I was scheduled for 1pm, and Jaemes finally called me into his office at 2:15. Five other people next to me in the waiting room had been waiting since 11:30 by the time I arrived. At 1:15, I asked the receptionist if I should reschedule for another day, and she told me that it'd be "just a minute." Since I had nothing else scheduled for the day, I waited. I should've left. On my way out of the interview, a man who had been waiting since noon was still in the waiting room (I don't know why they called me first). I wanted to warn him to leave before he wasted more time. I'd like to work for a company that respects me, my time, and my intelligence. I did not find that here, and I emailed shortly after my interview to tell 1st Line Global that I would not be pursuing the opportunity further.

      Application

      Interview

A lot of waiting. If your interview is at 2 you will not go in until almost 3 and you have to fill out your resume basically into their paper sheet. The building is old and run down. It has BOOM media in the same building ... they're basically the same concept one is run under the other.
