Don't be hard on yourself, the questions they ask don't define you who you are as an engineer. I had a similar experience, as candidates we are supposed to be informed of what exactly we can expect in the interview (format, topics covered). Some of the questions I got made sense, but some did not, no clear explanations or very vague problem descriptions.
