      Film Crew Member Interview

      27 Jan 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Glendora, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at AMC Entertainment (Glendora, CA) in Dec 2011

      Interview

i submitted an application online and the next night i got a call asking me if i was interested in the job still. the guy on the phone basically went through some of the basics of what you'd have to do and how you have to look. he told me that i should go to amcstubs.com to learn about the new stubs reward card that amc offers because we'll be tested on that in the interview. he told me to go in a few days for a group interview. when i arrived i sat down and there were people there already, when they were ready they escorted us to the office upstairs and they had chairs lined up with name tags. i found mine and sat down. the guy ended up telling us that there was a three step interview and if you passed all three interviews you'd get the job. he ended up going around asking everyone to tell us who they were, what school they go to, what they're majoring in and what not. when that was done you had someone writing down and marking down what each one of us said to keep track of our responses. then when we were all done the guy (the supervisor) asked us all to tell him what our favorite movie was. then after asked us why we wanted to work there. when we were done the supervisor and the assistant supervisor went out to discuss who'd be cut. the second round came and i was pumped that i made it past the first. this round they basically had us act out certain scenarios of what could possibly happen with a customer and how we'd handle the situation. they had cut out about 15-20 different scenarios and each one of us had to pretend to be a customer while the other person was the worker. this part was pretty intimidating since i am not an actor and i've never gone to an interview where you had to act out a situation and handle it. then after we acted out a variety of scenes, they told us that working at AMC is all about selling, and that if you don't have the skills to sell things this is not the job for you, and that if you don't sell enough of the AMC stubs cards you will be fired so they made us act out other scenes where we had to act out certain problems co-workers face on a daily basis and how we'd handle the situation if we were working and came across this kind of a situation. after the second round you go into a one on one with the supervisors. here they asked you about your personality etc. if they found your answers acceptable they hired you if they didn't like your personality / answers you didn't land the job. i ended up not getting the job. DEFINITELY A HARD INTERVIEW... maybe it was just the location because i've asked friends who worked for other AMC theatres and they said they never had to go through an interview process like i did. I rated the overall experience to be negative because of how intensive the questions were. The supervisors though were extremely nice, I wish whoever got the job the best of luck!

      Interview

Process is fairly easy. If they're interested in your online application, they do a phone screening. If you do well on that one, they call you in to do an interview for the specific theater. Most of the questions are personality based. They do have you have you pitch AMC Stubs just to get a feel of how you'd present it to customers. Not sure why someone said people get hired on the spot as I never came across a crew member that got hired immediately, even if they were short staffed. Typically it takes a couple days before they give you a response.
