      Brand Manager Interview

      14 Jan 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at AYMES in Jan 2025

      Interview

B-Corp With No Common Decency Pros: I had a great initial conversation with the hiring manager discussing the role as well as some of my background. She was really friendly and had a lot of positive things to say about AYMES and their team. Cons: I applied for this role in December 2024. Following an initial conversation with the hiring manager I was sent a culture fit survey. After submitting this I was invited to a second interview and asked about my availability which I immediately provided. However, the week I was supposed to interview came and went without any communication from their team and the second interview never happened. Over the next ten days I followed up on four occasions with the hiring manager and a member of their HR team, but only received vague responses and no updates on next steps or explanation as to the cause of the delay. Finally after a week of silence, I checked their job page and discovered the posting had been removed. Job roles get taken down sometimes and I get that, but basic human decency and professional courtesy dictate you should give candidates a heads up rather than ignoring their messages. It’s worth pointing out the culture survey was 40 mostly long-form questions, e.g., “Describe a time when you took responsibility for a mistake at work. What was the outcome?” (I listed the others below) which is fine but unnecessarily time consuming. Especially when you consider questions like this are typically answered verbally. AYMES recently gained their B-corp certification which is great, however their behavior in this case demonstrates a lack of respect for people’s time and is not in line with the ethical image they project externally. Initially I was disappointed but now that I’ve read through the chorus of other negative reviews left by former employees I’m glad to have dodged a bullet. Advice to Management: If a role is put on hold, cancelled, or filled, communicate openly and promptly with candidates. It’s disappointing to invest significant time and energy into a process and be invited to a second interview only to be ghosted without closure. Respect and transparency go a long way in maintaining your reputation. If you want to “Be Great and Trusted Communicators” and truly believe this is accomplished “...through mutual respect, honesty, and consistent integrity” as your careers page says, you need to put this into action instead of simply paying lip service.

We apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly if there has been a lack of response in the recruitment process. It is perhaps the timings around staff annual leave over the festive period, along with the volume of candidate responses across the various openings across December and January, that may have resulted in this being missed or routed incorrectly, however that is no excuse and we will evaluate and upgrade our processes to ensure this doesn't happen again. Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention so we can resolve this and we wish you every success with your career search.
