I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Abtech Technologies (Carlsbad, CA) in Apr 2017
Interview
Received cold call from recruiter for a much lower paying position, was forwarded to CEO, did a second phone interview. Did a skills questionnaire, then was forwarded to direct manager phone interview. Afterwards, set up an in-person panel interview with CEO, direct manager, and senior engineer.
Showed up, immediately wrangled into CEO office and talked money/benefits. Handshake agreement on X amount plus full benefits. Thrown off guard by having to negotiate pay before anything else.
Did a personality test in conference room alone.
Then did the panel interview in another room.
Asked basic questions, then simple two-way Q & A about the work, skills required, and work culture.
Couple days later, after a background check, received verbal offer to sign on. Accepted over e-mail.
Showed up on site to sign offer letter, was then told only 75% paid on benefits and that the agreed X amount would be adjusted automatically to fit. Bait and switched.
Accepted anyways, started a week later.
Interview questions [5]
Question 1
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This question was then changed after the first answer, expecting 3 different answers to the same question.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. We are committed to improving our interview process. We offer a set percentage for benefits this does not waiver and is clearly defined in our offer letters. We will make sure to take the time to explain this clearly during the interview process so there are no surprises when the offer is tendered.
