I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Academy Sports + Outdoors (Baton Rouge, LA) in Dec 2012
Interview
First they call you and do a phone screening. This is where they ask you some basic questions about availability and whether or not you are currently employed, etc. Then they schedule you for an interview. If it's for a management position the interview will be with the Store Director. Then if you get a final interview you'll interview with the District Manager. Depending on what District Manager; however, you may not get interviewed by the DM and the Store Director can choose who they want.

Question 1
What's more important, customer service or store presentation? Why?
Great, lots of sharing and asking questions. Understanding new store process. Recruiter seemed curt and the interview was promptly scheduled after applying. Went through two interviews pretty quickly, but recruiter ghosted me when I emailed and called for a follow-up.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Academy Sports + Outdoors (Mansfield, TX)
Interview
It was your average / basic interview over management skills, communication, revising poor performance and executing business goals. Store director was kind but seemed a bit dismissive as if he already had a decision in mind.

Question 1
How would you overcome the challenge of now being overseeing your once before peers if you become higher up?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Academy Sports + Outdoors (New York, NY)
Interview
Went well with initial interview being with recruiter, which was more detailed. Was then contact for interview by the Store Director and it was more casual.
Heard back from Store Director with a phone call a couple of days later and he decided to fill the position internally, which I heavily respect.
