      Software Engineer Interview

      9 June 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at AccuLynx in Apr 2020

      Interview

I applied for one of their software engineering positions. Had a phone call with a member of their internal talent team which consisted of the standard questions like "tell me about your current position", "tell me about a project you've felt passionate about", etc. Some of the questions were repeats of what is asked in the application form. It felt fairly robotic, like the person was just going down a list of questions and filling in box with your answers. I got a response shortly after, which was nice. However, they had since modified the original job posting to include specific requirements that were not present in the job requirements before and chose to not go further based on this. While I appreciate the quick response, my impression is that they don't know what they want and I feel that my time was wasted. I also didn't get the impression that they're interested in learning what you have to offer since they will first screen you on generic job requirements (which were added after the fact in my case) and make a decision, even if you're not far off from meeting the requirements. Finally, I was told that some of the positions that are listed are only for collecting resumes for the future. I find this an unfair practice to would-be applicants because you're making it seem like you're actively hiring for these roles. Acculynx: you should not do this and instead encourage people to email their applications to you to be considered for any future positions. I do appreciate that the person I spoke with was transparent and I felt that they answered some of my questions around remote work and the office environment truthfully.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Could you tell me about a project you worked on that you're proud of? Out of 4 software design criteria, how would you rank them in terms of importance (robustness, bug free, performance, UI/UX design)? Why are you looking to work at Acculynx? What makes you think you'd be a good employee at Acculynx?
