I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Achievement First (New York, NY) in Oct 2018
Interview
I applied online, did two phone interviews then finally went to NY for demo lesson. The lesson was engaging ( I believe), but I’m not an actual teacher and I only had 15 mins to give a demo. Many resident teacher programs approach hiring new teachers this way, but it never makes sense to me. You have 15 mins to teach a “demo lesson” to about 15 kids on a topic that they may or may not have background knowledge about and they test you to see how you respond to their behaviors etc. I mean I GUESS..but there are better teaching programs that will pay for your education entirely and will properly train you to teach while you work full-time. The interview process was overall OK (because they moved pretty quickly, about 6 weeks, to interview and to let me know whether they wanted me or not)

Question 1
In a situation where you have to turn in lesson plans for the week or have a conversation with a student about their behavior that day which would you prioritize (since you’re too short on time to do both)?
Recruiter reached out and scheduled an informal 30-minute phone interview, which was followed by an application with essay questions, then a longer scheduled virtual interview including preparing a lesson plan.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Achievement First (Providence, RI) in May 2020
Interview
Interview was well put together. 2 phone interviews then a final interview with the principal and other figures giving a demo lesson. Also had another one where I practiced in front of a recruiter before my final.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Achievement First (New York, NY) in Mar 2020
Interview
The process is pretty straight forward application, phone interview, references, and demo lesson interview. The demo lesson was a video call due to the epidemic with the school principal, talent acquisition member, and 2 deans. During all exchange of contact they were very genuine and welcoming.
