I applied online at the end of November and that same day received an email with a link to a video interview. Instead of there being an interviewer, you sat in front of your computer and the webcam recorded you talking. Questions would appear on the screen in either English or French and then you had 3 minutes to prepare before the filming of your response began. When you were finished answering, you would click "done" and a new question would appear. A couple times, it had me rank which base I preferred, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver.
A couple weeks later, I got an email asking me to complete a "short assessment". It was an IQ and skills test that felt really useless. One part had phrases like "Bob is taller than Jim" appear on the screen to then disappear and it would ask "Who is shorter?". "Joe is faster that Bob"..."Who is faster?". The next part consisted of three words appearing, "hot", "cold", "elephant" and you had to click on the word that didn't belong. This "short assessment" took 1.5 hours to complete because there were so many of the "Bill is sadder that Jim" phrases and the One of These Words Doesn't Belong exercises.
A month after that, I received a phone call asking me to an interview in person and was sent an email with everything I needed to print. They wanted originals and photocopies of two pieces of government ID, passport, all diplomas, and signed forms provided by them about airport security.
That interview only took 30 minutes. I was given the choice of doing it in English or in French. At the beginning of the interview, I was informed that this was for a Calgary based flight attendant only, even though the application I did was for Toronto. It consisted only of questions like "Give an example of when you disagreed with a superior at work? Give an example of when you worked with a team to accomplish something? They were all STAR interview questions. Situation or Task, Action you took, Results.
I was given the chance to ask questions at the end of the interview but the interviewer did not know any answers. I asked if she could give me an idea of what to expect as a freshly trained flight attendant, with it being such a big company, with so many routes, are the new hires put on shorter or domestic flights? Once you're on a route, are you always on that flight route or does it change regularly? All she said was "I don't know". She had mentioned an hourly pay and when I asked it this was the block pay and asked about per diems, she did not know. She was able to tell me that it would be 8 weeks before they got back to me.
