      Project Manager Interview

      12 Jan 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Americaneagle.com (Chicago, IL) in Jan 2020

      Interview

I was really excited for this company and the role but after going to the final in person interview I came out of the interview not wanting to work there at all. Up until the in person interview it was a standard online application, phone screen, video call, writing sample. Then you're asked to watch three company videos and check in 15 minutes early to fill out some paperwork before the in person interview. The paperwork is a paper job application for the same position you've already been interviewing for and have applied to online....maybe they're trying to get a handwriting sample? The in person interview is a mix of two people in the conference room who are not wearing masks and two people on video - a mix of HR, CIO, Project Manager leader and Director of Project Manager. Going on-site is probably a test to see if you believe in COVID and mask wearing. The interview started with what I liked about high school and what I struggled with. Who did I admire? I'm not a recent graduate - or could ever be mistaken for one - so this was very weird. Basically they started with high school and moved up the timeline to college, first jobs wanting to know why I left jobs, what I enjoyed and dislike about those jobs, and who I admired. After an hour, the three technical staff left me with HR to go over benefits. 401k match of 50 cents/dollar up to 3%. Start with 13 days PTO which includes sick days. HMO/PPO healthcare kicks in after 30 days. 24 pay periods. Flex hours so you can arrive between 7-9am and leave around 4-6pm because you'll be expected to go into an office location.

      Question 1

What did you think about the video clips you saw? Who did you admire in high school? Why did you leave that job? What did you find most difficult during that time?

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Our human resources team always notifies our candidates of our COVID-19 workspace policy prior to any in person interview. This is discussed during 1st and 2nd round interviews. We want to emphasize that candidates and employees are not forced to come into the office at any point. The interview questions you are referring to are a part of the standard Topgrading interview structure that is used by thousands of companies throughout the United States. With this practice we have found tremendous results of hiring the most high quality candidates. We take the interview process very seriously, both for us and the candidate. Our goal is so that both our company and the candidate are very open and transparent. We want to find a great match for both sides and hire an employee who wants to work here for 5-10-15-20+ years like so many of our people. We apologize you had a negative experience interviewing with us. We wish you the best of luck with your career search.

      Interview

The interview process was a fairly normal process. 3-5 rounds, take home assignment, and in person interview at the end. Take home assignment was kind of bizarre and confusing with little to no context.

      Interview

The interview process for Americaneagle.com was disorganized, messy, and lacked process. I started by interviewing the hiring manager which was straight forward. The second meeting was with the Directors I would be reporting to on a daily basis and the HR rep. After this meeting I was requested to submit a project status report and that went great. The last meeting seemed to be a throw away meeting with no purpose. The meeting was lead by the HR rep with the Director joining. They ask you to discuss your professional career all the way back to High School to present which was odd. After explaining my professional career, I waited for a week to learn I will not be hired in lieu of a local candidate. They did not seem concerned with taking the time to discuss every thing critical to the job and spending 4 rounds only to be overlooked for a local resource. This company is not transparent and I am grateful to have been passed over.
