I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Ansys (Canonsburg, PA)
Interview
The interview process was somewhat standard. The recruiting process was a bit informal and seemed disorganized. I was scheduled for multiple interviews with various people throughout a single day, including the CIO, who was newer at the time.
My background and experience was a good fit for the role so my impression was that the outcome would be determined based on whether they felt I was a good cultural fit for the company and if I hit it off with the other Directors that were part of the interview process.
There were a healthy mix of old guard leaders and some newer people so I was able to get a decent understanding of the challenges.
The CIO was newer and very concerned about this role, which makes sense as it was a critical cog in the machine.
My issue was not with the interview process itself or the people I talked to. My issue was with the aftermath.
When all was said and done, I felt like the role would be challenging and felt that there was a lot of technical and team debt to clean up. I ended up choosing another company and role (that I currently hold) and am quite happy.
That said, after the all day interview onsite, I was ghosted. No call backs from the recruiter or hiring manager. Not even a "We decided to go in another direction. Thanks!" type email. I called the recruiter after a few weeks to indicate I was making a decision on a few other offers to see if this was still an option and had no response.
For a leadership role at a major local tech company, I found this to be just really poor form. The recruitment team needs to at least close the loop with candidates brought in to interview for these types of positions.
Hopefully, they pick up their game.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Typical questions around leadership and technology management background and competencies. Initial HR questions were somewhat standard behavioral based. Some of the other department leaders who interviewed me took a more informal and conversational approach, which I personally find more beneficial.
