      Case Manager Interview

      23 Feb 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Irvine, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Anthem Tax Services (Irvine, CA) in Jan 2025

      Interview

My Interview Experience with Anthem Tax Services First of all, I want to emphasize that this was my personal experience. If you had a different or more pleasant one—congratulations! I interviewed for a position at Anthem Tax Services, and while everything seemed to be going well at first, there was a significant lack of transparency regarding salary and hiring criteria. One thing they do not mention upfront is that the salary range for this role is $23 to $33 per hour. However, during the interview, they introduced a tiered system based on experience levels: Junior Case Managers Mid-Level (Generalist) Case Managers Senior Case Managers Given my experience, I expressed that I believed I qualified for the Mid-Level (Generalist) Case Manager role. At that point, they informed me that for candidates applying to mid-level or senior roles, an assessment was required. I agreed to take it, and they specifically told me, "We will send you an assessment to your email right after this conversation." However, they never sent me the assessment. At first, I assumed it might have been a mistake, so I followed up with the recruiting team. When I reached out, the recruiter informed me that both managers had already decided not to move forward with my application—without ever giving me the assessment. Their reasoning? My interview answers were not what they were looking for. Why This Process Was Unprofessional Lack of Transparency If they had no intention of moving forward with my application, they should have simply told me. We're all adults, and I would have appreciated direct feedback. Instead, they falsely claimed they would send an assessment when they had already decided otherwise. That kind of misleading communication screams unprofessionalism. A Rigged Hiring Process? During the interview, I asked if anyone had ever passed their assessment at a level that would qualify them for a mid-level or senior role. One of the managers laughed and said, "No, no one has ever passed at that level." That response raised a huge red flag. If no candidate has ever qualified beyond the entry-level role, it strongly suggests that they are only looking to hire entry-level employees—despite advertising a wider salary range and different tiers. Misleading Job Postings It appears they want to develop talent from the ground up, which is not inherently a bad thing. However, if you are only hiring for entry-level positions, then just advertise it as such! Instead, they list a salary range that goes up to $33 per hour—suggesting opportunities for experienced professionals—when, in reality, they seem unwilling to hire anyone except entry-level candidates. Final Thoughts While I appreciate the opportunity to interview, this process felt highly misleading. If you're a professional with three or more years of experience, I would not recommend applying here. It seems they are primarily looking for entry-level hires, despite what their job postings may suggest. This was my personal experience, but of course, everyone’s experience may vary.

Thank you for your feedback, we truly appreciate you takign the time to share your experience. We're sorry to hear that it did not meet expectations. Since out recruiting process revamo in May 2025, we've implemented significant changes, including a strong commitment to role and pay transparency which are discussed openly during both rounds of interviews. While some roles may have a range, this is to account for varying experience levels and position tiers. We've also introduced standardized recruiting protocols to ensure a more consistent and transparent experience for all candidates. We appreciate your input, as it helps us continue to improve.
