Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on our hiring process. We’re a bit confused about some of the details you mention, though -- are you sure you are reviewing the correct company, or that you are reviewing for the correct position at Apportable?
Our technical interviews are conducted by the cofounder and CTO and are not focused on game-related questions as those are not important criteria for engineering roles. This interview is the only part of the process that isn’t hands-on with code -- the second (and final) phase is entirely pair programming on-site.
Also, Apportable's products play an influential role in the mobile gaming community. The games we've shipped with the Apportable SDK are used by over a hundred million gamers. We are also the developers of SpriteBuilder and Cocos2D, which are a cross-platform game development IDE and game engine, respectively. It seems odd that you would think our products don’t have anything to do with gaming.
Regardless, if you are reviewing the correct company and role, we apologize that your experience was not at the level that you expected. We take pride in our interviewing process and want the experience to be pleasant and exceptional, even in the case that we don’t end up hiring the candidate.
