I had an extremely disorganized interview experience. I applied sometime between July 1st and July 5th for an interview. I was contacted by a recruiter from a recruiting agency soon after and did a phone screening. Afterward, I was told the company's HR really liked my resume and interview answers and I'd be hearing something soon. Three weeks pass and I hear nothing. I'm contacted by the recruiter who says I should be getting scheduled for an interview soon in the next couple days. I get a call around 2 pm asking if I can do the interview THAT DAY. I say sure, trying to be accommodating, also holding out hope maybe they wanted to make an offer and that's why this is so urgent. I would like to note up until this point all communication for this role came through the recruiter which came from the company's HR. I thought I would be interviewing with HR. Instead I am set up for an interview with the CMO who has no idea who I am and assumed I'd already spoken with HR. I mention the name of the recruiter and the CMO has no idea who they are. The CMO then says they "just posted the job a few days ago" and "just started interviews." The job was posted a month ago and I had my interview a month ago. It seems the Marketing department had no idea that HR had been actively hiring for this role through the recruiting agency. The recruiter apologizes profusely after I tell them about this situation and was also confused. It would appear they completely restarted their hiring process and did not choose any of the recruited candidates. I not only feel that time was wasted for myself and other candidates, but I feel bad for the recruiting agency. Why hire someone and waste their time like that?? Completely unprofessional.
