Question 1
What was a deal that you failed and how would you have done differently?
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Asana in Sept 2025
Interview
I had 8 interviews for openings on 2 different teams. The first conversation was with a TA person and then the hiring manager. If you make it past that point then you will move on to the panel interviews which are 3 separate interviews (ranging from 30-45 minutes) covering different topics with additional sales or other managers. The topics they cover included (1) Persuasive, Closing & Negotiating (2) Emotional Intelligence & Problem Solving (3) Prospecting, Pipeline Generation/Management & Forecasting. They ask a lot of past experience based questions like "tell me about a time when you were faced with x, or you needed to do y." My sense is that they are looking for STAR type answers. I was not selected to do the final case study presentation with the hiring manager and sales VP for that group.
I did enjoy the interview process compared to many other interviews I've been on recently. Each person I talked to genuinely seemed interested in speaking with me and learning about my past experiences. I get the sense that in many hiring manager interviews they are half checked out and do not seem excited to speak with you. Perhaps this is because they already have a candidate chosen and they are required to interview people they know they aren't going to hire or even consider.
Asana also made a noticeable effort to be transparent in the interview process in that they ask each candidate the same questions and they will give you the last 10 minutes to ask them questions as well.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They tended to ask very vague open ended questions like "tell me about a time you used persuasion?" I asked for additional clarification - if they wanted an example with closing a customer deal or an example with internal cross-functional team members but they said I could talk about any situation where I had to use persuasion.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Asana in Feb 2022
Interview
Screening call with the recruiter who was actually really good. And then after that you will follow up not hear anything back until you eventually get a very generic denial email. Awful candidate experience and pretty disappointing considering the company has suck high reviews. Shame on the company. Be better.
