I applied to Ascend online, a couple of days later, I scheduled a phone interview. That went okay. I felt like the interviewer was friendly. She asked a lot of questions but I did not feel interrogated or overwhelmed.
However, the in-person interview didn't go as smoothly. FYI, had applied for a 9th-grade math position, but interviewed for a 5th-grade math role, so the rigor and content weren't something I was absolutely comfortable with. Despite that, I did create a lesson aligned with the common core standards and executed the demo as best as I could.
.... After I did the lesson, I was escorted to an interrogation room by 4 SVU detectives. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories. Everything I did was dissected and analyzed to the TEE. It felt like I was being accused of murder and they needed me to sign the papers admitting I did it. I was a bit uncomfortable in that room. I expected her to ease on her intensity and get the idea that I'm not the right suspect.
What's sad is that I'm sure this isn't the best reflection of Ascend Charter school. I had a great conversation with the talent recruiter and another candidate right before this traumatic experience occurred. And, i know some people who work at Ascend who love their jobs and had great interviews. I think my interview was just too intense.
