      Communications Interview

      14 Nov 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Ascension in Nov 2025

      Interview

I had a very unexpected experience with this company, During the screening, the topic of salary came up. I mentioned that I’d likely fall on the higher end of the posted range (still within it) since my experience more than tripled the stated requirements. The screener responded with what sounded like indignation, stating there was “no way” I’d be brought in at the higher end of the range. I calmly said I understood the dilemma and asked to be considered for other roles that might be a better fit. Her reply was, “Then why did you even apply?!” Wow! I applied because I genuinely believed I could add value to the team and my experience as a hiring manager has always been that for the right candidate, salary is negotiable within the stated range. Incidentally, the screener opened the call by stating this wasn’t her placement and that she didn’t know much about the position but she would “do what she could to get through it” which made it clear her heart wasn’t in the conversation to begin with. Needless to say, I left the call thinking the talent team must be so inundated with applicants that they feel comfortable speaking disrespectfully to candidates. It was an extremely off-putting experience. My advice to job seekers is, even in a competitive job market, know your worth and don’t be afraid to negotiate respectfully.
