I applied online. I interviewed at Ashwood Glen (Burlington, ON) in Jan 2024
Interview
Zoom call with just some technical questions then in person interview. In person interview is more of a cultural fit check with the owner and a colleague. It is fairly short.
This company needs an HR department to advocate for the rights of its employees. She was late to the interview, she did not know who she was interviewing with and had not reviewed any of my credentials ahead of time, spent time skimming my education, overlooked my cover letter completely. When I became uncomfortable and unsure of how to respond, she then belittled my work experience, challenged my credentials, then when I was feeling unconfident, she offered me a lower end salary to work there. I was surprised since she seemed to think I wasn't equipped. I was unhappy but continued the conversation and we seemed to agree on a reasonable number. After establishing a salary, she then tried to negotiate with me asking, and then insisting that she pay part of my salary under the table. Claiming she did not have the budget to pay the price advertised for the position, and offered to split the wage so I would be only claiming half my salary above board. So problematic. A lot of her time talking about her business was spent explaining why she had not implemented a certain structure for her business based on the fact she was a new mom, while telling me she does not accommodate women with family needs. It was a very discouraging experience. I would urge anyone not receiving fair compensation at this establishment to seek legal help. This is not ethical practice.
