      Translation Consultant Interview

      28 Nov 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Bible League in June 2024

      Interview

I applied and did my first interview for this position in June 2023. After being told that I would hear back in two weeks, it took almost a month before I heard anything, and I assumed that I had not been selected to move forward. I was very surprised when I heard I was moved forward to the next interview, but I was excited to still be under consideration. I had a screening interview followed by an interview with more senior consultants on the team. I enjoyed my discussion with them and was feeling excited to learn more about the translation process by completing the trial project that I was asked to do. I was told it "would not take much time," so I was shocked when I saw the length and difficulty of the passages that were given, which I believe was quite unreasonable for an unpaid trial project. I have done similar trial projects for other interview processes, but have never been asked to complete that amount of work without being paid. I was not working at the time, so I had the time to complete it, but I honestly don't know how someone who was working full-time would manage to complete that project in the midst of another job. Nevertheless, I was very excited about the position and was willing to do the work if that that was what it would take to continue to be considered for the position. I worked for three days full-time to finish, and I put a lot of thought into it. Afterwards, I had to wait another two weeks, only to be told that I would need to do another interview. It was only after contacting all my references and submitting the info for the background check, that I was informed that this is no longer a remote position. After everything I put into this process, it was a huge shock to be told at the very end that I could not be considered because I can not relocate. The job was posted as a remote position, and I was clear from the beginning of the process that I could not relocate. I would not have even applied for this job if I had been told that relocation was required. I felt throughout the process, and even more so at the end, that my time was not considered or valued by BLI. I spent many hours preparing for the interviews and doing the trial project, and to be dismissed in the end, over an issue that should have been clarified before I even started the process seemed very unprofessional.
