      Account Executive Interview

      3 Apr 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at BioRender

      Interview

Their interview process is detailed in advance so there was no surprise there. I had the first round interview with the recruiter. It went well. I checked all the boxes and then some. They actually said you are a perfect fit for the role with your background. At the end of the interview, I asked normal questions. Then I asked if they knew about the negative reviews on Glassdoor for company as well as the culture. I was told they have been made aware and hired a team to help with this months ago. I stated this was a concern about culture and was trying to get an understanding if these were just anomalies or if there might be an issue. I was notified days later I did not move to the next round. I feel strongly it was because I pointed out the negative reviews on this site. RED FLAGS and glad I was not moved forward!

      Interview

2nd step with hiring manager was awful. It started out fine, he insisted this was not going to be detailed at all and was just a high-level "get to know you." However, I think I came up against some major xenophobia that changed everything. He must not have taken a decent look at my resume because he disregarded work experience I had in a country that's currently facing political issues. He essentially said he would not be counting my 1 yr of experience there towards my total Sales experience. He then pushed me to give an answer that would have required specific knowledge of the company's clients/ICP (which I don't know cause... I don't work for them?? I haven't been onboarded??). At first I said I would not be able to answer but was pushed to. I did my best. His response was dismissive but also contained a statement that was blatantly incorrect and insinuated I was lying or was said to make me seem foolish for not knowing something I already admitted to not being able to answer. I corrected his false statement immediately, a firm but polite pushback. He was absolutely unable to handle this. Immediately shut down the whole conversation. I felt pretty blindsided by the change in tone and attitude which took quite a disrespectful and dismissive turn. It was so 180 I can only see Xenophobia as a logical reason for it.

      Question 1

Asked for specific names of past clients I've sold to (should have realised in the moment this is an inappropriate thing to request).

      Application

I interviewed at BioRender (Toronto, ON)

      Interview

The recruiter did not get me excited to work for BioRender, as the first contact I had with the company in the interview process. Felt like it was just walking through the formality of the interview. I was not very excited to continue through another 4 interview process after that. Recruiter clearly did not read my resume.
