      Interview

The interview process was one of the more frustrating experiences I've had in recent times. After an initial screening with the recruiter, I was told there would be two rounds of pair coding interviews. The first one was with two employees who had only worked at the company for nine and six months and required solving a generic algorithm problem. The interview went fine and I was told the next round would be solving a more real world problem with a senior engineer and a time was scheduled. When the interview time came around, no one showed up to the video chat. I emailed them and they said there was a mixup and we agreed to reschedule for early the next week. The new time comes around and instead of solving a real world problem with a senior engineer, it was another generic algorithm question with someone who had only worked at the company for four months (and wasn't even listed on the interview invite). The question was unclear so I stumbled a bit but still solved it at the end. Fifteen minutes later I got an email saying they were passing on me without any further explanation. I had to take two days off work to do these video interviews because of their "mix-ups" and at no point did anyone ask about my previous experience, projects, or really anything about myself. It seems they just want fast coders to do menial work. I also looked up the second guy who interviewed me and he'd graduated from college a mere six months ago and apparently was given the power to make a the final call on hiring. This experience has put me off any more pair coding for any potential job in the future. The reviews on the company and the business model already seem like a disaster so I'm pretty sure I dodged a bullet with this one.

      Interview

Extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. Recruiter reached out, I gave availability for a video call, and don’t hear anything for 4 days until they send me a calendar invite late at night for an interview the next morning. I accept it, then they cancel <30 minutes before because the interviewer has a "doctors appointment". I send more availability, again don’t hear anything for 3 days, then get another calendar invite. Interviewer doesn’t show up yet again, and then when I email the recruiter again I get ghosted.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Bird (Venice, CA)

      Interview

Few months ago, it was super easy to join (they on-boarded all those engineers who got laid off from Snap and other companies nearby). But now that the company is super popular, they've attracted all those Bay Area talents, along with their notorious interviewing questions. So, if you're a backend engineer, they'll ask you about the firmware that's running on the scooters, and some ways to optimize/improve it. Relevance? Close to none. I spent 3-4h there, and none on the panel actually went through my experience and asked relevant questions to the job I was applying to. If they give you a homework, don't bother too much, you'll spend a few days working on it while they'll only spend few hours to judge/assess you. And they also don't care about your coding abilities and what you can deliver, all they want is good scholars. And once they realize those guys can't do a proper job, they'll hire more engineers to fix the mess. How do I know? This happened at Snap.
