      Interview

I interviewed with the recruiter over the phone. My second interview was with the hiring manager over the phone. Last interviews were with cross functional partners over videochat including presenting to the hiring manager at the end. The recruiter kept me updated throughout the process so I did not need to follow up.

      Operations Manager Interview

      23 Mar 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Block (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2016

      Interview

Painfully slow and disconnected interview process. Job description was not reflective of required skills and was misleading. Two phone screens and 6 personal interviews over 4 weeks to conclude a mismatch of a skill-set listed neither on my resume not on job descriptions across multiple portals. I checked. The interview panel was unaware of the role and responsibilities in question. They were unprepared and did not provide any insights into their interaction with the team they were hiring for. Hiring manager was deeply uncertain of the vision of the team, growth opportunities and immediate challenges. Project Manager was passive aggressive, unprepared and had to pull up Linkedin during interview to start conversation. Had mocking tone and wondered why to hire a person who's on top of their game. Data Science guy asked some relevant questions. Engineering Manager asked engineering questions. Ultimately everybody asked questions about what they did, while no one knew what the candidate was going to do, and were unable to ask relevant questions; rendering the interview exercise useless for lack of focus on the job in question. This exposed a politics infested workplace where veteran employees mislead new leadership to maintain control on hiring and vision to avoid competition and maintain indispensability.
