      Customer Service Representative Interview

      27 July 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Blue Apron (New York, NY) in June 2015

      Interview

In June I partook in a group interview at the Blue Apron offices. There were maybe 10-12 candidates invited. The first part of the interview was informational, basically just a PowerPoint then a Youtube video. All of the information presented was readily available on their website. I found that strange. I attempted to follow up with the recruiter after the interview but she did not respond to several emails in the two weeks following the interview. After that, we broke out into groups to meet with representatives, answer their questions, and ask questions of our own. In most group interviews I've attended I've been asked to work with said group on some sort of task -- not this one. We just sat in a circle and took turns answering pretty simple questions. Many of the questions were of the structure, "How did you respond to x situation in the past?", which seemed to better suit a more personal interview. We did not really get to interact or communicate as a team would, which I assume would be the benefit of a group interview. No one seemed to have any knowledge of my (or anyone's) resume or cover letter. They had also asked a few of the interview questions prior to the interview, on the written application, only to ask them again in person. I took time and effort to communicate my qualifications through my writing before the interview and it seems no one bothered to read it. I generally expect that the person interviewing me knows who I am when they invite me into their office. This was for an entry-level position at the company so that might explain the more lackadaisical approach, but given the company's reputation and the compensation I took it seriously. This did not feel like an interview for a position in a hip, professional office, it felt like a cattle call for a minimum wage job at K-Mart or Starbucks.

Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback. It sounds like you are referring to a recruiting event that we hosted through a third party company that connects young professionals with internships and entry level jobs. Rather than being an interview, this was an informal, low-pressure, networking event that prospective candidates to get an inside glimpse into Blue Apron’s corporate HQ. We enjoyed meeting a broad range of potential candidates at this event, and apologize if you were mislead to believe this was a large group interview.

First interview is among a group of other viable candidates. General questions concerning the overlap of previous experience that would be beneficial for the prospective position. Some writing concerning the answers to the questions that they posit after the initial interview questions. Finally, they interview individually.
