      Developer Interview

      5 June 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Toronto, ON
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Borrowell (Toronto, ON)

      Interview

In the few months that I went through the job process, I went through a lot of screeners and in-person interviews and I have to say that Borrowell's process, care and commitment was the best experience that I had. I had one screener phone call and three interviews to follow. I honestly believe it's the small things that matter. From the point of application, where I initially applied to a customer service related role, their Head of People operations saw I was qualified for a different position they had available and moved me into that pipeline, which I think shows their commitment to people from the start. They also followed up exactly when they said they would, which is an experience I didn't always have when interviewing at other companies. In line with that, after the second interview, one of the co-founders assured me that they would get back to me by the following Friday and not to be concerned as it was the long weekend. I thought the fact that she thought to say that was very considerate and indicative of the type of culture and company that Borrowell has.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Borrowell

      Interview

I didn't have the best time there! It was a waste of time away from my current company for nothing. First, there was the screening call. The HR lady was kinda and explained every detail, said a lot of nice things about the company diversity and all. Then I moved to the technical portion and it was just awful. The guy that was supposed to interview me was out and then came this other guy, super disinterested in everything I said. He basically didn't ask me any questions and went straight to the code. Within 5 minutes he started to hurry me up and it was very uncomfortable. After I finished he asked me one or two questions about the code and goodbye. It was frustrating because it looks like they put down a guy who had little or no experience with interviews who didn't what to be there. What a waste of time. I tried to communicate, saying why I'm doing this and that but he was like: Yeah I don't care just wanna get out of here! They reserved 2 hours for the interview and all it did under 30 minutes (including the questions I asked and everything)
