Two weeks after I have applied, they called me and did some screening questions before offering me an interview. Since the beginning, I told them that I could teach both Spanish and French but I am Spanish specialist, so I am trained to teach Spanish till KS5 and French till KS4 if Foundation. They offered me an interview (lesson for Y10 Spanish for 1h, school tour and interview). I went to do my interview, and they were almost 5 min late from the time they told me to be there (even I had arrived 15 min early just in case, so I had to wait 20 min). The HoD and 2iC of the MFL department came to collect me, they introduced themselves and brought me to the staff room. They made a pre-interview with some more screening questions (what do you teach, what can you offer to the school, etc) and suddenly they decided to test my French knowledge asking me questions in French. I was not prepared and I did my best, however they did not ask me anything in Spanish. They also told me that the lesson would be 40 min, not 60 as they told me in the e-mail, so that sounded like a big red flag to me. We then went for the lesson, We arrived late so I could not greet students at the door, not having everything prepared before pupils could go in. I did this running. Lesson was in general good, some misbehaviour was there but easily tackled and expected as pupils had a lesson with an unknown person. At 40 min of the lesson, they said to me to stop teaching, and another teacher came in and did something completely different from what I was teaching them. They brought me to the department, and they said to me they did not want to continue the interview as I was not meeting the expectations. I accepted this but I asked what are the expectations they wanted from me so I could figure it out and improve in other interviews, but they said they would write an e-mail to me with this. After this, the way from their department to the way out was really awkward as the HoD decided not to say a word to me so I tried to break the ice, but the feeling was really bad - in general the sensation is that I was not treated professionally and in some way I felt they did not like me from the very beginning. However, I kind of feel relieved as if the treatment in a simple interview was that, I don't want to figure out how the work environment would be, Additionally, I did not like that you have to be moving all around the school to teach your lessons (KS3 and KS4 in different buildings), which is not very convenient.
