      Data Analyst Interview

      1 Oct 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Braustin Homes in Sept 2024

      Interview

They don’t have any kind of HR person to help hire, and they are having an accountant do the interview screenings instead. I applied through Glassdoor and had an impromptu interview phone call the following day. In this interview phone call I was asked about my education and project experience, and I was very transparent about how Ive never had a DA job before and therefore no professional work experience relating to DA, but I had the degree and self-studying experience and was looking to get my foot in the door. I was then scheduled for an in person interview for the role, only to not receive any email correspondence back to my questions regarding scheduling, parking, preparation, etc. Even the google calendar invitation changed my meeting from 10:15, to 10:30, then to 3:30pm- all without any correspondence. 5 days go by, still no response from anyone. I had to call last minute and confirm that this was a miscommunication error and I was scheduled for 10:30. I was scheduled to meet with the CFO, who was the person hiring for the DA position and the person the DA works directly under, and I ended up meeting with the CEO instead. Again, no correspondence as to when that decision was made or why. I interviewed with the CEO, who I was never scheduled to meet, and who did not bother to go over my resume and experience. And he tells me he won’t hire someone who doesn’t have work experience as a DA. Perfectly understandable- but this should’ve been screened for in the initial phone call interview. Hell, if he even bothered to take a 1 minute look at my resume before the meeting, he could’ve saved me the gas, time, effort, etc. Instead, nobody ever looked at my resume because apparently- “everyone lies on those anyway”. Instead, I got questioned on a 1 year gap I have (hello the job market sucks and I’ve been self-employed), essentially told I didn’t have the “high growth” mindset that the company needed, and got told I need to be like his engineers that “live and breath” code. For a data analyst position. Which doesn’t involve application programming. Again, if I’m not a good fit, that’s perfectly fine. But this could’ve been easily avoided had someone just taken the time to screen for candidates properly, or look at a resume even. Also, the entire interview was done with the door wide open. There were several workers at their desks just 2 feet away from where we were sitting and could easily hear the entire interview. Honestly, I got the impression I was part of some kind of performance or lesson that the CEO was putting on for the workers. I can't say that's a fact, but I really don't understand why else someone wouldn't opt for privacy and instead interview me in a very public area. I’m very fortunate to be someone who has the flexibility to show up for any interview at any time needed. Most people do not have this flexibility. Some people have to switch shifts, take PTO, get a babysitter, take 2+ buses, whatever they need to get to an interview. I think it’s important for all businesses to be considerate of an applicants time and resources. However, this is not a respectful business. From all the miscommunications, lack of correspondence, and interview switch ups, I found the whole experience to be very unprofessional. I would hate to trash-talk any business, and hope that’s not the take away here. But if you are someone interviewing with them and you are encountering issues- it’s probably for the best that you take your time elsewhere.
