Mobile Front-End Engineer - React Native / React Interview

      3 Dec 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Bree (Canada) in Oct 2024

      Interview

I had previous extensive job experience that was extremely similar and relevant to Bree's product, so was initially excited about the match. However, it felt like the whole thing was a "Do a bunch of work for us that we can steal from, in the guise of an interview." The interview assignments/questions were unreasonably laborious, and unprofessional in how directly they could be applied to the company's product. After many hours of unpaid work for numerous interview rounds, I got ghosted just like the others here, and after I prodded after over 2 weeks, got a "Unfortunately, we can't move you forward in your process" email with no further details.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

Take-home assignment: Given a style sheet (but no design mockups), make a React web frontend that stylistically matches Bree's existing product, and reproduces several of Bree's core features.
      Answer question

      Question 2

Live coding interview: Prepare (on your own time) a React Native mobile project that contains some base features similar to the web project above. During the live (~1hr) interview, implement up to 4 full-fledged additional features.
      Answer question

      Question 3

"System design" interview: - After trying Bree's mobile app, what feedback do you have to improve the app? How would you fix those bugs? How would you prioritize/assign those tasks? - Here are some product issues Bree is presently facing. How would you deal with those issues?
