Find out the direction you really want to work on first. Contact the professor in that direction and introduce yourself with a updated resume. Then discuss about the available research position and funding issues. If want to work with that professor on the graduate degree, apply online for the graduate program of the corresponding department and prepare all documents the department requires.

It was simple, walked in and told them how great I was. That is all it took. Asked and answer questions. The interviewer was quick, smart, knew his stuff. The questions were about the tasks and skills needed. No stupid questions about frogs leaping out or a box to test ones thinking skills, just straight forward real interview.
