      Senior DevOps Engineer Interview

      Interview

Unfortunately, this was a disappointing interview experience. The initial conversation with the internal recruiter which was straightforward and the role appeared to align well with my experience. I was then asked to complete a technical take-home assessment via the Coderbyte platform. Prior to starting, I emailed to clarify how submissions should be shared, as the instructions mentioned uploading results to a portal, but there was no clear way to download or submit the completed test. I received no response. After completing the assessment, I followed up multiple times to confirm whether my submission had been received, but again received no reply. Being completely ghosted after investing time in an intitial interview and technical exercise is frustrating and unprofessional. Even a brief confirmation or rejection email would have shown respect for the time and effort candidates put into the process. I really hope the company takes this onboard and improves communication and follow-ups with candidates going forward.

      Interview

It was great. The people were lovely, I actually enjoyed it. I had a great conversation with each different interviewer and thought that I’d be offered the role, but unfortunately I was second best. I’m actually really gutted that I didn’t get an offer because Butternut Box seems like such a fantastic place to work, where I could have made a positive contribution. I’m super hopeful that in the future, another opportunity will come along to work with Butternut Box. If you have the opportunity to interview for Butternut Box and you’re lucky enough to get an offer, take them up on it! Thank you Butternut Box for your time.

      Anonymous interview candidate

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Butternut Box in June 2025

      Interview

The interview started with an informal conversation about my CV and the company. There was no discussion of the technical stack or role expectations. I completed a take-home test focused on Docker and pipeline development. After submitting it, I did not receive any further communication despite a follow-up email.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We're so sorry to hear that your interview process didn’t reflect the high standards we set for communication and candidate experience. This isn’t the level of care or clarity we aim to provide, and we completely understand your frustration, especially after taking the time to complete a take-home task and follow up. Please accept our sincere apologies for the lack of communication. We’ll be reviewing this internally to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
