      Software Engineering Manager Interview

      29 Aug 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Butternut Box

      Interview

Had a take home exercise after a great call with a recruiter. Was asked to design a roadmap for implementing a feature through Epics and Stories, to timebox this at-home exercise to an hour, and to keep the scope of the stories on the roadmap high level. I followed the instructions, limiting the detail to fit the timebox, having been told I would also be able to talk through the work in a later session. I was then rejected with no further sessions, with the only feedback being that the team were looking for 'more detail'. When I asked for clarification on this feedback, and pointed out this contradiction with what was asked of the task, I received no response. I left the experience feeling as though my time was not valued, and penalised for having followed the instructions.
