      Engineering Management Trainee Interview

      7 Jan 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Jacksonville, FL
      No offer

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at CSX

      Interview

They fly (or you drive out) to a hotel in Jacksonville the night before. The next day you meet in a conference room with a group (I had 8). They give you a background on the company, the possible positions you can have and some of the benefits of working for the railroad. You then go to three different situations: (1) 2 on 1 panel interview; (2) role play; (3) committee decision-making.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The hardest questions they asked were about situations in school/work where you had to deal with a difficult situation and how do you solve it.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at CSX (Jacksonville, FL)

      Interview

The process lasted all day , without a lunch break . Make sure to eat a full breakfast. It consists of a scenario involving a discontent employee. A lengthy interview about yourself, they want to know specifics on tasks that you accomplished, what goals and outcomes where achieved. And finally , you are placed in a conference room , where you are observed similar to a science experiment . You are made to work with the people you are competing against for the job in group exercise. Essentially you are pitted against each other for their amusement , you are expected to formulate a answer to something involving train scheduling. Remember to drink water , and don't forget that breakfast! It is a fairly intense day , In all likelihood you will be tired and confused after the process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There was no one question per Se. The most difficult part of the process is conveying that you are what they are looking for in the format they are wanting. It is unlikely that any of the people interviewing you ever went through any type of process similar to this to get into the industry.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CSX in Oct 2013

      Interview

On campus recruiting. 30-45 minute video interview. Basic stuff like go over your resume and general behavioral questions. If you get a call back, they send you to hotel in Jacksonville, FL. There, one hour presentation over the job. They make you sure know what you are signing up for such as long hours and outdoor work in all weather. Then, 45 minute behavior based interview. Similar as the first round, a little more in depth about leadership and safety experience. Then 2 role-playing case studies. One where you have to deal with a disgruntled employee and one where you are on a committee and need to reach an agreement. You are judged the whole time on how you act and how you handle yourself. The disgruntled employee is hard, the committee is easy if everyone you interview with is good and works well together.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How do you manage employees and make sure they are on time with deadlines. How do you enforce safety in your last position.
