Interview
Laborious.
You send a resume, cover letter, and video response to specific questions. A gatekeeper interview follows, and you're then asked to complete 3 tests within a couple of days.
One test was an email to a non-paying client, one was a design challenge, and one was a developer test. Each of these challenges took anywhere from 20 minutes (for writing the email) to 60 minutes upward for the design and development challenges. Each test is given with specs that may include terminology not used in your background, with minimal information or assets provided including how finished they'd like your end deliverable to be.
So you choose: do you fast prototype w/out placing real assets, or do you finalize the layout for review? Either way, it's a time-consuming process particularly if you care and don't usually rush your work, or you're providing a more finished product.
Their WordPress developer challenge was really confusing, so much so that after deciding that I wasn't going to complete that optional test I asked my partner (who is senior WordPress developer for a web company) to look at what they were asking me to do. He was confused about what they were asking, and thought it was overkill particularly for a designer.
Really wondered why the designers would be responsible for collections on past-due clients for their email-the-client challenge.
The whole thing felt like they were very comfortable asking a lot of people, and only cared about how long the task took, which felt like this place is a design mill. I didn't want to work that kind of environment, so it was good for everyone that I didn't receive an offer.

Horrible. They wasted my time and energy. This is the second time that I was asked to do a skills test with them and they lost the assessment. The first time was a couple of years back when I was finishing up cancer treatment. I spent a few hours on the design skills test and making a mockup. Also submitting a video. You submit it through this portal/online form along with some other questions they ask. The same exact thing happened last month when I applied to a similar role again. Someone eventually got back to me to say that their system had "crashed" shortly after I applied. I feel super disrespected by the process. I also found out on reddit they've got some pretty egregious surveillance and monitoring software and techniques they do on their remote employees. Think I may have dodged a bullet. Don't waste your time applying to them, they seem deeply unserious and honestly cruel.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
How would you handle a situation where a client refused to accept your designs and told you to make changes that would significantly harm the quality of your work?
It was great, it was a good experience, it was not hard at all and easy. But they take time responding back to candidates. Mine take to long to receive a decision.

The hiring manager was very nice. She asked about my past work experiences, why I want to work for Coalition, and a few more specific questions relating to my work experience.
