The hiring manager was very expedient about reaching out to me shortly after I applied and getting an interview set up, which was great! Everything seemed to go fantastically during our meeting and we agreed on all the points we discussed. He went as far as putting my number in his phone and asking me to save his so I could reach out to him if I didn't hear from him by a certain date after telling me that he really liked me and the way I presented myself, and that the outcomes were that he would be letting me know if I could start within a week or two or whether he'd need to let me know if the hours weren't quite available yet, so he might need to hold off until the early October when their busy season started up. When I didn't hear from him by the date he said he'd let me know either way, I gave it an extra couple of days and called him. I left a voicemail, which I expected to do since I knew he might be busy, and never even had my call returned to let me know what was going on or if he'd changed his mind. I don't think I'm owed a job just because he said the options available were just a matter of a start date, but I don't appreciate being ghosted after being hyped up like that and promised communication. It's unprofessional and kind of like holding somebody hostage in limbo making them think employment is almost a sure thing. I'd rather not be given false hope and then ignored for over a month than told there's a good chance I've got a job coming up and told I'd be communicated with.
