      VP of Marketing Interview

      26 July 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Candidate Labs

      Interview

The interview process was strange to say the least. Initially I was contacted by a recruiter on their end to interview for their internal VP of Marketing position, but it quickly devolved. The first meeting was with the recruiter and it was basically an hour long platform demo of their internal candidate search tool and some general hype about the company. Went well, but was far from engaging on the candidate side. Next stop on the interview train was... the same recruiter. After having a frustratingly similar conversation I was scheduled to talk with the COO. This is where I began to question their process and my sanity. The conversation with the COO was essentially the same intro hype and name drop session. Weeks later they reached out to schedule more time with the COO and I accepted. Maybe now I would be able to have an actual interview with a company that touts itself on redefining candidate experiences. The second interview with the COO was kind of awkward as he wasn't really prepared. Halfway through the interview he broke out a small data set and some revenue goals and asked some "how would you get there?" questions. It felt more like fishing for ideas than a genuine question and I got the impression that they didn't know what they needed or wanted in a marketing leader. If that wasn't bad enough, while in process for their internal role, they started pushing me toward roles they were trying to fill for their clients instead. I appreciate more opportunities being sent my way, but it was very awkward timing and made me feel like they were just going through the motions with the internal role to fill out their client side talent pool. After all of this I was straight up ghosted. No feedback, no update, no auto-reject email... radio silence. Candidate Labs is not redefining the candidate experience, they are simply delivering one that is worse and trying to get VC and PE firms to pay for it. I would not recommend them as a candidate and would not contract with them to source talent on the business side.

Thank you for taking the time to give your candid feedback on your interview experience with us. I hate to hear it when anyone has a negative experience interviewing with Candidate Labs, especially when it sounds like we dropped the ball. If you're open to sharing, I'd love to learn more about your experience. We are always looking for ways to improve our interview processes and candidate experience, and your feedback will be taken into account as we continue to hire.
