Title: Interview lacked collaboration for a contractor role
Interview Experience: Negative
I interviewed with Carnival UK for a contract role, where collaboration and mutual understanding are especially important since it’s about hiring a partner, not just an employee. While the recruiter was excellent — engaging, transparent, and keeping me informed throughout the process — the interview panel itself was underwhelming.
The hiring manager’s style felt directive rather than collaborative, with little effort to explore how we might work together as partners or to present the role in an engaging way. The second panel member appeared disengaged, at times showing negative body language such as eye-rolling, which did not convey professionalism.
Post-interview communication slowed, and the feedback was minimal — simply that other candidates were a better fit. While I appreciated the recruiter’s honesty, the lack of constructive feedback or closure from the panel was disappointing.
Advice to Management: For contractor roles, focus on creating a two-way conversation that reflects partnership and collaboration. Ensure all panel members remain engaged, professional, and invested in representing the company positively. Clear, constructive feedback helps leave a lasting good impression, even with unsuccessful candidates.
