      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Chico USD

      Interview

Top applicants were selected for an in-person skills exam to test knowledge related to position. Top percentage of test scores were selected for interviews with a panel of department employees. The top 5 or so that passed the panel interviews had a second interview scheduled with upper management. After passing all 3 stages and being led to believe I was their top candidate, I didn't hear back at all by the date they gave me. Called for follow-up, received a returned message that there was a problem with the paperwork for creating the position I had interviewed for, and that they would need time to sort it out. Followed-up again, but never heard back from the district again after that. Overall, this was a months-long process that felt like a massive waste of time; didn't respect my time invested to bother confirming whether the position was given to someone else or whether the position never existed due to lost/incomplete/unapproved paperwork.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Chico USD (Chico, CA) in Feb 2023

      Interview

The process took me two months in total. After submitting my application by the posted deadline, I was contacted to come in and take a written exam. 60ish questions, Scantron-style. I took the exam with about 15 other approved applicants. Those who scored in the upper tier were invited back a week later for an informal verbal exam - two employees from the department asking about 10 questions. My advice is to get there at least 15 minutes ahead of time so that you can study up on the questions that they provide. From here, I was informed that I was one of the top scorers from both exams (not the highest) and would be placed on a waiting list for 6 months or until the next available position were to open up. I was invited back about a month later for another interview, this time with two of the department leads. This interview was a bit more formal but in the same style as the last one where the questions were asked from a list. Again, get there at least 15 minutes prior so that you can review and prepare answers for each question. After this, it was about a week before I heard back from HR. They contacted my references and, once everything checked out, I was offered the position. Overall, the interview process was fairly simple and straightforward. I didn’t need to do a lot of prep. Note that because CUSD is unionized, the salary for the position is predetermined so there is not an opportunity to negotiate. The salary is posted with the job description so there were no surprises.
