Interview
Very unorganized, questions seemed to be asked on the fly, CEO was late to the interview by 30min and had me waiting at the office for her to show. I almost left until she called. Wish I would have.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Citrus Studios (Los Angeles, CA) in July 2022
Interview
The interview was first meeting with the CEO over Zoom (though it was supposed to be 30 min, it went over to 50)
She later emailed that day if we could meet up for coffee. We ended up having her treat me to dinner in the Palisades and we discussed when we start training, pay, and other details of a work laptop. Essentially, she talked in a way like I got the job.
Her husband was interviewed me the next day and everything went fine but I got off vibes when I told them I was hesitant about the pay and the job title. The job is Web Designer but it sounded like I'd be making web designs, help with photoshoots, do company branding, be a copywriter, manage projects. It sounded like 6 jobs in one and I didn't want to be titled just Web Designer. They said 'okay we'll get back to you on that'
30 minutes after that interview, they hit me with an email writing 'hi. how are you? we decided to go in a different direction."
And that was that. I was glad I didn't continue because I don't believe the pay was enough compensation and I was worried based on some of the bad reviews they have from employees on glassdoor.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Who is someone you admire?
What is the difference between an artist and a designer?
Thanks so much for your comment! I really appreciate your review! I'm writing this since this is a public forum and want to make sure everyone else who reads this gets an accurate assessment.
Before I interview candidates I ask for salary requirements. Your original salary requirement was $10K less than what I offered. Which I thought was excellent for someone who never had digital agency experience.
I went up $10K from your original salary requirement and I also mentioned that we would review your salary after the introductory period depending on how you did.
As a boutique agency all designers have the incredible opportunity to learn various exciting roles! It was something you were excited about when we talked and an opportunity for you to learn and get paid while you learn since you didn't have any previous experience!
You were excited about the possibilities to learn. I told you the job offer was contingent on the third interview.
After your request for yet another salary bump (when you didn't even start it didn't make any sense).
We interviewed many people for this job and while you were a top candidate, we ended up hiring 2 designers who were a better fit for our culture.
We also offered additional training from the Academy for Coaching Excellence which is a value of $3K.
As for the other past employees reviews you mentioned, here are some reasons why they were fired and why I had to let them go:
1) embezzlement
2) destroying company property
3) fighting with other employees
4) continuously missing deadlines, turning in work in a sloppy manner after months of coaching
5) plagiarizing other designers work
6) unexcused absences
I wish you all the best in your journey and career!

Interview
Interview process was pretty quick, went in twice before receiving an offer. Interviewed with the founder and got to meet some of the other team members I would be working closely with.
