I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at City Year (Chicago, IL) in May 2014
Interview
phone interview, online application. it was pretty easy, just lots of talking about why you wanted to do the work offered, what experience you had, and so on. I didn't think the interview was particularly challenging. it was mostly a conversation about why the issues were important, what my familiarity to the issues at hand were, and how committed I was to approaching those issues with City Year's model.
Very simple. Quick virtual interview and pretty simple questions. Research their values and what not and you should be good to go. As far as I remember it was a single interview and decision is relatively soon after that.
Really friendly and welcoming. Try to make it as comfortable as possible and share about the work they do. They want to ensure applicants are making the right decisions and that they assess the values.

Done over zoom and not an overly long process interviews are usually conducted by the IM for a school in the city you are applying for but if you have a pulse you should be fine
