Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton interview questions

I entered the interview process for a role that was initially described as a one-round interview for a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension. During the process, this structure changed. What began as a single interview expanded into three rounds, with the third interview scheduled at the last minute. At that same stage, the contract terms were also revised from a 6-month engagement to a 3-month contract. Following these changes and after completing all interview stages, I was ghosted. The most difficult aspect of the experience was the shifting expectations throughout the process and the lack of clear communication around those changes. The combination of added interview rounds, revised contract terms, and the eventual cancellation made it challenging to understand the stability of the opportunity at any given point. Candidates invest significant time and energy when progressing through multiple stages of interviews. Situations like this highlight the importance of maintaining consistency and being upfront about potential changes—whether in interview structure, contract terms, or the viability of the role itself. Greater transparency throughout the process would allow candidates to better manage expectations and make informed decisions.
