I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at CodeSignal in June 2026
Interview
The process started off great! A recruiter reached out, and we had a great conversation, following which he sent me along to the hiring manager, who was eager to connect once I completed an AI assessment. Some of the first things requested were age, photo ID, and a photo of you with your ID. Then you were required to share your entire computer screen for the process, opening up all kinds of personal security concerns. I removed myself from consideration at this point and politely explained the concerns with the legality of it (it's 100% NOT legal to ask age, ID, etc in California. Considering the role has been open since February, I agree with what other posters have said; this seems like a method for training an AI model and not an actual job to be filled.

Question 1
Tell me about how you have managed projects with competing deadlines.

Interview
You have an interview with an AI, which is awkward and dehumanizing. But it's their platform, so I figured "okay." A month went by with no word, and I received a second assessment for the job and was asked about my age right off the bat, which is not only illegal but also sealed the deal for me. I dropped out of the process from there. If I'm never going to speak to a human, much less be treated like one, it's not the job for me.

Tell me about a project you managed from beginning to end and what were the results.

Interview
I had a relatively good interview process for this role until the end, when it all went downhill.
Like another review said, there were several rounds required for the interview: 1st round was an AI phone screening, 2nd round was the first opportunity I had to actually speak to a real person (the hiring manager), 3rd round was a skills assessment that took 45 minutes, 5th round was meeting with the team, 6th round was meeting with the head of marketing, and the 7th and final round was with one of the co-founders. So a lot of rounds and a lot of time and energy spent.
After having the final round interview on a Friday morning, I waited to hear back to see if I would be moving forward with next steps. I heard nothing until late evening the following Monday, where the SVP emailed me saying there was an emergency and asked if I could wait a week until the Hiring Manager was back. I told them yes, and I guess that was my mistake. The week went by with no word at all. On day 8, I finally reached back out to see if they had made a final decision since I had heard nothing. No response to that email. Then, the following morning, I received a non-personalized, automated rejection email from the system. They made me wait over a week just to reject me on the final round, with no acknowledgement of how much time I had waited. It felt like they just planned to ghost me after the final round.
I hope they start treating their candidates with more respect. This was mishandled on their part, especially since they're a company that claims to want to improve the hiring process.
