      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Coinbase in May 2021

      Interview

The interview process for this position was painless and easy. The first interview was with the recruiter where I was asked some basic questions about my background and then the second was with the hiring manager who dove deeper and asked more specific bevahioral questions.

      Question 1

What is your familiarity with Coinbase and cryptocurrency?

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Coinbase (Seattle, WA) in Sept 2023

      Interview

A strange process. I applied for one position in the company, and after the first interview for that position was informed that I wasn't a good fit for the role, but there was another role I would be a good fit for, and my information was sent over to that recruiting team. The recruiter called me the next morning and we had a quick and easy phone interview. I then went through another interview, which was easy enough - in all of these cases, interviewers were friendly, asked interesting questions, and had clearly read my resume and application. Unfortunately, things got weird from here on out. I was then asked to take the "COINSights" test online, which was dozens of in-depth, highly technical questions about Scaled-Agile Framework project management as it pertains to software development (SAFe v5.1), something entirely irrelevant to the job I was going to be doing. I somehow passed, and then had two more rounds of interviews. The first of these was at 5:30am local time and only took fifteen minutes as the interviewer, who was in Europe, had not actually prepared any questions. The next interview was a day later and was quite difficult as it was all about specifics of cryptocurrency, but I appear to have passed. After clearing all of these hurdles - four interviews and a screening - I was congratulated and scheduled for a final panel interview a week later. The morning of that final interview, I woke up to an email saying that "regretfully" they had found an "ideal" candidate for the role and would be canceling my interview. I told them I understood but asked for feedback in the event that another role opened up, and the recruiter told me he would call me later in the day to debrief. Haven't heard anything since. That was two weeks ago. For the most part, communication was great during the process and everyone was charming, but after nearly six weeks of back-and-forth scheduling, hard work, early mornings, and study, I feel a bit cheated that I wasn't given the chance to get to that final interview before a decision was made. So it goes.

      Question 1

"After a quick Kanban session, the product sponsor has approved your changes and you're ready to launch! Upon deployment of your team's pilot program, you are made aware of a back-end coding issue causing two-factor authentication to fail for a certain subset of end users, locking them out of their accounts. What are the most and least effective solutions to propose to the technical team?" (Dude, what? This is a customer service position.)

      Interview

Short wait between applying and being moved to the next step, which was giving a writing sample. Approximately 2-3 weeks wait after that before being invited to interview. After that, I received an offer the next day. Overall, a great, no-hassle process!
