      Contractor Interview

      7 June 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Color in May 2024

      Interview

Applied to a contract content position and received a response within a day or two. Despite an extensive portfolio of examples, they wanted me to produce not one but two writing samples: 1) a synopsis of a multi-page report on how their services fit into the broader strategy of the report's sponsor and 2) create a blog based on an NIH blog that positions the research findings in a meaningful way for one of four audiences. A writing assignment is to be expected, but this was step one of the process with no idea of how many candidates you're competing against or what chance you even have of being selected. On top of that, the assignments they chose would have taken substantial research; I estimated 15 hours. For a $30/hr contract position (content creators typically charge by the word, not by the hour), asking for such a substantial investment of time felt like an unreasonable ask, at best. It was clear they do not respect or value others' time.

      Question 1

How would you translate this report into a one-pager to better contextualize how our services fit into Mercer's vision for a comprehensive cancer strategy?
