Applied online. Was sent an email setting up the time telling me to bring transcripts and id. The new chair implied that I was greedy because I worked teaching part time somewhere else. I thought it was for the full time, but it was for the part time. How is an adjunct supposed to survive off one job? The new chair complained about how bad the remedial students are and said she wanted someone that would be a father, friend, teacher, etc... . She wanted all this stuff for a part-time job and stated someone was greedy for working somewhere else. I looked up her info. Looks like she never worked outside of academia. Before the interview I heard them bad-mouthing a current part timer (I guess from the context of the conversation) while they left me waiting. Interviewer was very hostile. I was told to bring transcript and form of ID. The classes left were remedial so it should have been a matter of formality for a part time adjunct position teaching middle school math to college students. They should have already checked my background. They were desperate to get someone at the last minute and I overheard this discussion, so they decided to go with that person. If you are younger trying to get into full time, going into part time as an adjunct they really look down on you there. Have a lot of older adjuncts, younger full timers. It helps if you're female also.
