Initial phone screen with hiring manager which went well - very basic questions about role, my skills, etc. Next step was video interview with 4 individuals (1 peer, 2 managers, 1 senior leader). 2 of 4 interviewers were very unprepared (including senior leader), didn't seem to know the interview was happening; other 2 interviewers were great, asked good questions and let me ask questions as well. After video interviews, hiring manager gave a verbal offer via phone, discussed compensation, said to expect formal letter shortly, then went completely dark (not responding to repeated phone calls, texts, or emails) for 31 days, when I then received a "sorry, we overestimated hiring" email, also saying "if you have other questions about why this happened, we can talk on the phone" - I attempted to set up this call to get a better understanding, and again, never heard back.
Truly disappointed in this process, the lack of respect for my time, and general disorganization and disrespect for candidate experience - I get that these things happen with hiring (I am in recruiting) but ghosting a candidate is never the best way to handle.
