I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Compass (New York, NY) in June 2019
Interview
Headhunter reached out to me. They were pretty quick in the process and feedback after each step.
Interview rounds:
1. Video interview (outsourced to Karat)
This was great as it was outsourced and done by a profession interviewer from Karat. Some open ended questions, followed by 3 coding challenges.
2. Phone interview with an engineer from Compass
Basic JavaScript interview.
3. 4 Onsite technical interviews (45 mins each) - 1 background and experience, 2 whiteboard coding, 1 system design. A 15 min followup with the recruiter in the end.
This was the not-so-great part of the process. First interview with the manager was pretty good. The coding interviews were only 45 mins long and they expected to chat for 10 mins, then do whiteboard coding, then another 5 mins for followup. Explaining the coding problem itself took about 5-10 mins so I was left with about 20-25 mins to actually come up with the solution, implement, and trace it. Almost all of interviewers were a few mins late leaving even less time for the coding. One of the interviewers took almost 15 mins to explain a problem statement and ended up running 15 mins over while the next interviewer stood outside the conference room knocking on the glass every few mins! It seemed like he was trying to ask a trick question just to show off. Came off across as disrespectful, constantly checking phone, ignoring a lot of the things I was saying, and ignoring his colleague waiting outside the room to interview next.
The last interview was system design and we started about 20 mins late. The interviewer stopped me about 30 mins in saying it's Friday and he needed to leave for the day. Last two interviewers didn't seem to care much about the process, checking their phone and not paying full attention to what I was saying.
Interview questions [3]
Question 1
Phone interview 1: Leetcode subdomain visit count, maximum common sub-array, some hashmap based homegrown problem.
Onsite interviews:
Background / experience based interview,
Leetcode meeting rooms II,
Homegrown problem involving string search and keeping word counts (wording was very weird and meant to confuse you),
System design: Design a feed that takes activities from various sources. (Simplified version of Facebook like feed)
I applied online. I interviewed at Compass (Boston, MA) in Dec 2025
Interview
After applying, I got a call from the recruiter for initial phone screen, it went very well and she told me that I should expect an email with the next steps soon. I never recieved any email from her. I followed up couple of time, but she did not revert back.
Very bad experience

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Compass (Buenos Aires) in July 2025
Interview
Una entrevista con RRHH, una con el engineering manager y un live coding de DSA. No era en una plataforma asi que no se corría el código contra tests predefinidos.
Had a fairly simple technical screen, medium leetcode question. For full loop they had 2 system design and 2 coding along with a behavioral. I was rejected because they were looking for more experience. They were very fast with the results
