A recruited contacted me via email with a TPM challenge saying that they would be moving forward with the application i made online a couple of days ago. I had another interview with Cruise a week before this, where-in i was told half-way through the hiring process that although they liked my profile they hired someone else who was much ahead in the pipeline. So this time, I didn't want to be behind, timing wise. I got the email with the task on a Friday, and I finished up the task by the weekend and sent it over to the recruiter. I actually put genuine interest and effort into this task and was happy with the outcome. Showed it to some of my usual critics on what they thought about it, and everyone were impressed with my report. So I was at least expecting to go to next round for a call with the hiring manager. But haven't received any feedback for a week. After a week i sent a follow-up email asking the recruiter if there was any update. And then a week later, I get a response back from the recruiter which seemed like an automated email, no feedback about the task which usually takes up more than a few hours of your time and effort. I honestly didn't care about the position itself by the end, but I at-least expected a proper feedback on the task itself since its not an easy or quick one. I think it is actually wrong to give a task before the hiring manager shortlists the candidate themselves. The recruiters aren't the right judge to decide who gets to do the task. I feel in this case, the recruiter would have given the task to all the candidates(with a current TPM title) who have applied. Anyways, the feedback could have been better! I still enjoyed doing the task.
