I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at DICK'S Sporting Goods (Kansas City, MO) in July 2009
Interview
It was apparent to both of us that I was overqualified so the interview was really just to meet me and understand that I was normal and had the sports knowledge needed for the position. I actually had more questions than him, because while he was sold on me, I was still considering if this was the type of compromise I wanted to make. He filled me with a bunch of crap about how I could be a manager within a year, and his sales lead (assistant manager) could be leaving at any time. Since then I've learned that his sales lead, who has been at that position for several years without being promoted to manager, still has no intention of leaving 9 months after that interview. I've also come to learn that there are other sales leads who have been in-store over 5 years and have yet to be promoted to manager. That's probably because every other week there is an outside hire for the open management positions. If I wanted to become a manger here it would take more like 5 years and would require me to leave the company for a few years and come back.

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at DICK'S Sporting Goods (Washington, DC) in Nov 2025
Interview
It was quick and easy. They asked basic questions about yourself and availability. Nothing too in-depth and no questions that required more than a simple, couple-word answer. Overall, the process felt straightforward, efficient, and low-pressure, making it easy to complete without much preparation or stress.
