      Recruiter Interview

      5 Dec 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at DMS International in Nov 2017

      Interview

Through Indeed, I applied for a full-time recruiter position. Via email I was contacted for an interview. Performed a video call and answered behavioral questions along with specific experience questions. I left the interview with the impression it was a full-time contract position with some flexibility on duration. Several weeks later (actually thought I was no longer being considered), I received request from the recruiter to talk. During the call, the recruiter informed me that the team was only open to paying $20-$25 per hour. I reminded recruiter I was actively interviewing for roles at the $40 range. Then the recruiter requested I send him an email justifying why I deserved a higher rate. He also requested I reserve two dates/times to do a phone interview with the hiring manager. A few days later, I receive a meeting invitation for that interview. Tonight, the evening before my 8 am phone interview with the hiring manager, the recruiter texted me to call him. As I was driving home, I spoke with the recruiter and was informed that the position would only be part-time. I was very surprised. I immediately apologized for my misunderstanding and informed the recruiter I was under the impression that position was full-time. Then I informed him I could I could not accept a part-time position. (Side note: just reviewed Indeed posting and position is advertised as full-time). From that moment on the recruiter became hostile in his communication with me. Giving me a hard time about not wanting to take the part-time position and telling me I was "being unreasonable." It got so ridiculous that I had to tell the recruiter he sounded angry at me and, from a candidate experience, this was bad. While the recruiter continued to give me grief, I told him there was nothing more to discuss, I am withdrawing my application, and said good bye then hung up. Within 10 minutes, I received text messages from the recruiter. When I got home, I read the text messages which stated he was cancelling my interview and was sending me an email. The email he sent told a very sterile version of our interaction tonight and mentioned that he was going to send a copy of that email to the executive team. So glad I withdrew my application. Lots of red flags!
